October 13, 2023 By CityPASS

Christmas at LEGOLAND® in California is something to experience if you have LEGO-loving kids. The park gets a holiday-style makeover. There's live entertainment, a huge LEGO Christmas tree, seasonal treats, and even snow in Southern California at Legoland in December.

So, if you're planning a holiday trip to LEGOLAND, you'll want to maximize the fun and participate in the special holiday cheer. If you've yet to see what a LEGOLAND Christmas looks like, you're in for a treat.

What To Expect During Christmas at LEGOLAND® California Resort

The LEGOLAND holiday experience is truly something you'll never forget. During the holidays, the theme park turns into a Christmas wonderland. From the special characters, seasonal food, and holiday shows, to the rest of the LEGOLAND theme park favorites, visiting the park during Christmas is a great idea.

The special events happen on the weekends, so if you plan on enjoying the holiday shows and some of the extras, you'll want to plan to go on a weekend. However, the park is open during the week. If you want to go when it's less crowded, weekdays are probably the way to go.

How To Plan Your Christmas at LEGOLAND

From the end of November to the first part of January, LEGOLAND is a holiday experience for guests. You and your family can ride the rides, but the water park will be closed. However, the SEA LIFE Aquarium is open. If you want to partake in the holiday fun, consider staying at the LEGOLAND Hotel so you can experience all the fun and grab a bite to eat at the Bricks Family Restaurant.

Book Your Stay at LEGOLAND Hotel

Your LEGO holiday experience can continue after you leave the park when you stay at a LEGOLAND hotel. There are actually two: the LEGOLAND Hotel and the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel.

The LEGOLAND Hotel has themed rooms for kids with fun scavenger hunts in the room. Kids have a separate sleeping area. There's a pool, indoor castle play area, two restaurants, and LEGO build areas.

You can choose between a wizard, princess, or knight at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel for their themed room options. The LEGOLAND Castle Hotel has a pool, LEGO build areas, an outdoor playground, a movie theater, and one restaurant.

Both hotels offer extra perks like a hot breakfast buffet and early entrance into the park.

Behold the Festive LEGO Christmas Tree

At Fun Town, you can witness the majestic 30-foot life-size LEGO Christmas tree. This tree has hundreds of LEGO ornaments. It's covered in holiday lights and other ornaments. The tree lights up and plays music during the Holiday Light Show.

Falling snow happens throughout the day. There are also giant LEGO reindeer, wreaths, snowmen, and LEGO Santa's around the park. There will be other holiday decor around various places, so keep your eyes open for festive decorations that can make for an incredible photo backdrop.

Share With Your Favorite Holiday Characters

You can see your favorite holiday characters across the park. Snap a photo with LEGOLAND Santa and his magical sleigh and reindeer. You will also have a chance to meet and take pictures with other holiday characters like the LEGO Toy Soldier and LEGO Gingerbread Man. Other fun holiday characters around the park include Mrs. Claus, elves, snowmen, and more.

You can hop over to LEGOLAND's Miniland, which will also have Christmas fun added throughout. There will be mini Santas and reindeer. Also, in Miniland, the kids can have a chance to color a holiday ornament, build a LEGO tree ornament, and write a letter to Santa to mail to the North Pole Mailbox.

Enjoy Special Seasonal Entertainment

A fun part of the LEGOLAND California Christmas celebration is the seasonal entertainment. The Fun Town Stage is where you'll see live music performances in a holiday-themed musical extravaganza. Also, holiday carolers will walk around the park, singing holiday tunes and spreading holiday cheer. You can watch holiday elves that dance, Mrs. Claus' Gingerbread Bakery show, and some shows that feature the Gingerbread Man and Santa Claus.

Get on Your Favorite LEGOLAND Rides

You can still ride the fun rides when you go to LEGOLAND during Christmas. The LEGO TECHNIC Coaster is the pick for the thrill seekers in the group. With a 50-foot drop, this ride is intense for all ages. Emmet's Flying Adventure Ride is another fun ride for the entire family. You'll be immersed in a world made of LEGOs.

You will also want to take advantage of the popular Lost Kingdom Adventure ride. You'll enter a temple and be given laser guns to shoot at mummies and skeletons along the way.

Another great ride to hop on is The Dragon. Here, you'll ride into the LEGOLAND Castle and see inside, then shoot back outside as you ride the rest of the roller coaster.

Savor the Diverse Variety Dining Options

There are many places throughout the park that serve holiday-themed food. You can find holiday-themed cookies, rice crispy treats, and caramel apples. Pick up a smoked turkey leg at the Smokehouse BBQ. Castle Ice Cream offers peppermint shakes. The Market has peppermint rice pudding. If you're a coffee lover, there are pumpkin spice lattes. Hot chocolate and apple cider are also served.

Not to mention all the regular food items you can find at the park. For example, you can find warm, cheesy pasta at the Pizza & Pasta Buffet. You'll want to try the iconic Granny's Apple Fries, a LEGOLAND special treat. There's also traditional park food like hamburgers, pretzels, slushies, popcorn, and ice cream.
